Mykola Tomenko: Viktor Yanukovych should not belittle Ukrainian Women
At the yesterday´s program at Channel 5, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, expressed his anxiety about the unwillingness of Viktor Yanukovych, candidate for presidency, to take part in the televised debates with Yulia Tymoshenko on the pretext that "she is a woman and should demonstrate her whims in her kitchen".
M.Tomenko stressed that Ukrainian women had always been independent. He provided numerous proofs in his works on the status of women in the Ukrainian society. "It is in the Middle Ages that women were deprived of most rights except of their household chores. In Germany, the role of an ideal woman was reduced to three "K"- Kinder, Küche, Kirche. Our women have always succeeded in governing the country, running business, etc. Thus, one shall not belittle 54% of female population of modern Ukraine. Ukrainian women can hold any offices", - the Deputy Chairman stated.
He supposes that Viktor Yanukovych should become independent of his political consultants and copywriters, taking part in the televised debates with Yulia Tymoshenko. "It would be a double victory. As in all the European States, the voters will have an opportunity to listen to both candidates for presidency before the run-off vote, making a conscious choice between two candidates", - Mykola Tomenko stated.
