Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, deems necessary to hold Kyiv Mayor and Kyiv City Council Elections on 30 May 2010
"The resolution of the Constitutional Court has no retroactive effect, so the elections of Kyiv local authorities shall be held on 30 May 2010, - V.Lytvyn stated, answering the journalists´ questions on Monday. I have addressed the corresponding committees and commissioned the Secretariate to provide a final explanation of the Constitutional Court resolution".
According to the Head of the Parliament, "when elections are launched, Kyiv City Council shall force itself, set up an election commission by 61 votes and adopt the resolution on elections of the city council and the mayor".
V.Lytvyn also deems necessary to adopt the resolution on two-round mayoral election and on amendments to the Law on the Capital of Ukraine Hero-City Kyiv. He deems necessary to determine the system of local authorities´ election. "It is a crucial issue in view of the fact that politics is in the way of economy", - he summed up.
