Oleksandr Lavrynovych: Introduction of Amendments to the Law on Presidential Elections on the Eve of Voting Day is fraught with Danger of Chaos in the Organization and Holding of Elections
The Party of Regions parliamentary faction suggested agenda for the extraordinary plenary meeting 13-14 January that was formed in the December 2009 on order to prevent the tension in the society created by the pro-governmental political powers, having an intention to initiate in four days before the election the scrutiny of the bill on amendments to the Law on election of the President of Ukraine. It was declared by the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the course of the briefing for the journalists on 13 January.
At the same time, O. Lavrynovych noticed that the agenda also contains the issues on lack of the state budget fir the current year and implementation of the Verkhovna Rada Resolution on fighting the influenza epidemic.
The First Deputy Chairman summed up the work in the course of the extraordinary sitting of the parliament on 13 January. "I can not name this day successful", - he declared and explained: "We once again were the witnesses of the fact that the present Cabinet of Ministers ignore the Ukrainian laws, does not care of the Parliamentary majority and does not fulfill the resolutions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine concerning the state budget for the current year. Of course, there were noting to scrutinize as the Budget for the current year simply does not exist."
Giving answers to the questions concerning the work of the Parliament on 14 January, O. Lavrynovych expressed hope that the day would be calm and effective.
Giving comments concerning the initiative of the pro-governmental powers concerning the introduction of the amendments to the Law on the election of the President of Ukraine in four days before the voting, O. Lavrynovych in particular reminded that Deputies that suggests amendments implementation used to elaborate together with the Party of Regions and Our Ukraine People´s Self-Defence the effective Law on the election of the President of Ukraine and later voted for overcoming of the President´s veto. "Today it is obvious that such introduction of amendments to the law on presidential elections on the eve of voting day is fraught with danger of chaos in the organization and holding of elections."
