A delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine led by First Deputy Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko visited Ireland with the aim of establishing closer ties with the country, members of the Irish Parliament, and the Irish Government. This is particularly important, as Ireland will assume the presidency of the European Union starting in July this year. It is expected that the majority of negotiation clusters related to Ukraine’s European integration will be opened during Ireland’s presidency.

This was stated by Yevheniia Kravchuk, member of the Servant of the People faction, Deputy Chair of the parliamentary Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, and member of the permanent delegation to PACE.

“The issue of European integration was central to our meetings and discussions with the Prime Minister of Ireland, Micheál Martin, and Ireland’s Minister for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne. Ireland consistently supports Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and advocates the position that Ukraine is an important partner, particularly for the security of the European continent. Ireland also supports the establishment of a Special Tribunal, accountability for the crime of aggression, and compensation for the damage caused to Ukraine as a result of russia’s war against Ukraine,” the politician noted.

She added that both sides are committed to deepening cooperation between the two countries.

“We expect the visit of the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland to Ukraine already this summer, as well as other events within the framework of Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the EU. It is extremely important for Ukraine that the European integration process moves forward fairly, transparently and dynamically, based on merit, without artificial delays or additional requirements,” the MP stressed.
