Oleksandr Merezhko, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, held a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to Ukraine, Thomas Jeffrey Harold Bowan.
The interlocutors discussed the current security and humanitarian situation in Ukraine. Particular attention was paid to issues of bilateral cooperation. In particular, the discussion focused on economic and military-technical assistance to Ukraine, the development of trade and investment, as well as the prospects of Australia joining international instruments of the compensation mechanism for Ukraine as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.
The parties also paid attention to the implementation of reforms in Ukraine in the context of European integration, interaction between the branches of government, and opportunities to deepen the Ukrainian-Australian interparliamentary dialogue.
The Committee Chair congratulated the Ambassador of Australia to Ukraine on the beginning of his diplomatic mission and expressed gratitude for the comprehensive support provided by the Australian Government and its citizens.
