The Capital commemorated Vasyl Symonenko, Prominent Ukrainian Poet, - M.Tomenko

An artistic evening dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Vasyl Symonenko, prominent Ukrainian poet, took place at the National Philharmonic Society of Ukraine on 11 January.

 

An artistic evening dedicated to the 75th anniversary of birth of V.Symonenko was organized by the public organizing committee headed by Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and Borys Oliynyk, Hero of Ukraine.   

 

M.Tomenko opened the commemoration meeting and stated that celebrations had been held in Poltava and Cherkasy regions on 8 January (the poet´s birthday). He also appreciated activity of the leaders of Lubny district council of Poltava region who organized celebration in the poet´s native places. M.Tomenko also expressed his gratitude to the leaders of Cherkasy regional council who supported renovation of the premises of "Cherkasky Kray" newspaper, where V.Symonenko started his career as a journalist.  

 

"Thus we discover a deeper, philosophical, and brilliantly wise personality of Vasyl Symonenko who was one of the most outstanding Ukrainian poets of the 20th century", - M.Tomenko stressed.   

 

As far as the plans for the future were concerned, M.Tomenko announced that "Symonenkivski Chytannia" ("Symonenko Readings") would be held at the schools of Kyiv. Subject literature exhibitions will be held at the public libraries of Kyiv and at the National Literature Museum of Ukraine. He also stated that one of the streets of the capital would be named after Vasyl Symonenko. 

 

M.Tomenko, Head of the Public Organizing Committee, stated that the lyric poetry of Vasyl Symonenko was performed live, as extra copies of the CD "Swans of Motherhood: Vasyl Symonenko Live" including 17 records of poet´s recital of his own verses were published. Every guest of the artistic evening at the National Philharmonic Society received a sample of the CD. During the evening, People´s Artists of Ukraine and famous musical teams performed the works of Vasyl Symonenko.
