The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, concluded his working visit to the Kingdom of Denmark, where he took part in the EU Speakers Conference.

On the sidelines of the Conference, more than 30 bilateral meetings and discussions were held with representatives of the EU member-state parliaments.

Ruslan Stefanchuk discussed European security, support for Ukraine, parliamentary coordination, strengthening of defence capabilities, and Ukraine’s future in the European Union.

According to Ruslan Stefanchuk, an important outcome was the clear reflection of Ukraine in the final document of the Conference. Participants also highlighted russia’s aggression against Ukraine as one of the key drivers of global instability and emphasised the need to strengthen the European Union’s role as a strong and responsible global actor in defending freedom, democracy, and the rule of law.

The document also reaffirmed unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders, and stressed the need for continued and sustainable military, financial, economic, political, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

It also highlighted the role of national parliaments and the European Parliament in supporting Ukraine’s integration into the European Union, in particular by assisting the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the negotiation process, the adaptation to EU standards, and the consolidation of European values.

An important outcome of the Conference was the establishment, on Ukraine’s initiative, of an informal association of parliaments of EU candidate countries. As the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted, this format will facilitate coordination of actions, exchange of experience, and faster progress through the necessary stages of EU accession.

“For us, it is crucial that the issue of Ukraine is not viewed as a crisis, but as part of the common European security. This is exactly the approach that Europe needs today,” emphasised Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada also expressed gratitude to Denmark for its hospitality and for hosting the Conference, as well as to European partners for their support of Ukraine and readiness for continued joint work.
