New Year Address of V.M.Lytvyn,
Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,
to the Ukrainian People
Dear Fellow Citizens!
Please accept my sincere greetings on the occasion of the joyous and heartwarming holidays New Year and Christmas. These holidays are traditionally united by the touching atmosphere of warm feelings, inspired by cordiality and anticipation of revival, full of faith in new prospects and realization of the cherished dreams.
These holidays unite people around eternal values, virtues and verities, exalting them over the everyday routine.
These are the days to reflect upon the past, assess achievements and success, sum up the attainments of the whole community and every individual. Personal achievements and assets are closely connected with the destiny of the State and society, depending on the success of the whole country. It is the time when we are curious about the future.
Coming 2010 starts with a crucially important event in the socio-political life of the country. The future of our Motherland depends on the results of the presidential elections that have already caused public anxiety and tension. Life tests the State capacity of Ukraine and civic power of the nation.
We hope that dominant features of the national character - wisdom, thoughtfulness and responsibility will triumph in spite of all the calamities, challenges and tension. I wish these holidays reveal the essence of verities, pave the way to the truth for the Ukrainian people to attain self-assertion. I am convinced that we shall opt for the recognition of conscientious work, actual knowledge, practical experience, moral values, social consolidation, peace, concord, economic stability, social equity, international recognition and predictable future.
Dear fellow citizens, I address you with a request to unite around this common pursuit, directing your energy, will, creative thinking and efforts to the achievement of the cherished dream a democratic, prosperous and powerful Ukraine.
It is our historical obligation and sacred duty before the descendants.
May the willingness to act and create be enhanced by the holiday inspiration, sincerity of feelings, confidence in the fulfillment of all plans and wishes!
May the light of the star of Bethlehem accompany you, warming your hearts and strengthening your faith!
I wish merciful destiny and new achievements to dear Ukraine, every family and every person.
