Strategic cooperation: Oleksandr Korniienko held a meeting with a delegation from the Slovak Republic

On 24th of February 2026, Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, held a meeting with a delegation from the Slovak Republic led by Vice-speaker Martin Dubéci. 

«First of all, I am grateful to the delegation for this visit on the anniversary of the full-scale russian invasion—for us, this is an important signal of solidarity and support for the Ukrainian nation,» said Oleksandr Korniienko.

During the meeting with Slovak parliamentarians, the First Vice-speaker emphasised the importance of interparliamentary dialogue as a tool for supporting and developing cooperation between states and stressed the importance of Ukraine’s cooperation with Slovakia. He noted that Ukraine and Slovakia have long-standing friendly and party-internal connections, and that contacts at the level of parliaments and political groups contribute to strengthening cooperation.

Oleksandr Korniienko particularly stressed on the strategic areas of cooperation: economic and technical cooperation, military supply, and joint projects in the engineering and automotive industries. He said that Slovakia is a well-known leader in these areas and that Ukraine is interested in deepening such projects. 

«In addition, I emphasised the importance of creating twinning projects between partner cities. I invited consideration of the possibility of implementing such projects,» mentioned the First Vice-speaker.  

He also highlighted the importance of practical assistance from partners in the context of martial law, in particular the stable supply of electricity for social facilities, hospitals, schools, farmers and businesses, and expressed his gratitude for the support in ensuring energy stability.

Separately, the First Vice-speaker thanked Slovakia for its support of Ukrainian refugees, of whom there are more than 50 000 in the partner country, and noted the active participation of Ukrainians in the Slovak labour market.

Oleksandr Korniienko praised the courage of the Ukrainian people and their ability to stand up to the aggressor, noting that even in difficult times, Ukraine continues to work effectively on vital projects and joint international initiatives with partners who stand side by side with our country in times of tough challenges.

Anatolii Kostiukh, the Head of the group on interparliamentary relations with the Slovak Republic and Chairman of the subcommittee on nuclear energy and nuclear safety of the Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, also joined the meeting with the delegation from the Slovak Republic.
