Security guarantees, air defence and sanctions: the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation held a meeting with a delegation from the Norwegian Storting

On 19 February, members of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation met with a delegation from the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence of the Storting (Parliament) of Norway.

The Committee members welcomed the Norwegian delegation led by its Chair, Ine Eriksen Søreide, to the Committee and expressed their sincere gratitude to the Kingdom of Norway for its continued and consistent support and assistance to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

The parties discussed the current security situation in Ukraine, energy security issues, prospects for a ceasefire and the peace process, in particular possible effective security guarantees for Ukraine and sanctions policy towards the aggressor state.

The interlocutors paid particular attention to the development of air defence, the strengthening of systems to counter drones and ballistic threats, and the modernisation of defence infrastructure in line with NATO standards.

On the Ukrainian side, the meeting was attended by members of the Ukrainian Parliament, Committee Chairman Oleksandr Merezhko, Deputy Committee Chairman Oleksandr Kopylenko, and Committee Subcommittee Chairpersons Mariana Bezuhla and Yelyzaveta Yasko.
