The First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a meeting with a delegation from the Norwegian Storting's Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense. The meeting took place in the conference hall of the Ukrainian Parliament.

Oleksandr Korniienko welcomed the Norwegian delegation in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and on behalf of Ukrainians expressed gratitude for Norway's consistent support and assistance to our country. According to him, Norway's record support for Ukraine in 2025 was the most striking manifestation of unity: military, civilian, and humanitarian aid significantly strengthened Ukraine's defense against russian aggression.

"We highly appreciate the Storting's continued unanimous support for Ukraine following the parliamentary elections held in Norway in September last year. We look forward to maintaining this unity and further interparliamentary cooperation. Without international support, it is impossible to achieve strategic results," he said."

During the meeting the parties discussed the issues related to energy security, military assistance and international initiatives supporting Ukraine. A particular attention was paid to the development of air defense, the strengthening of systems to counter drones and ballistic threats, as well as the modernisation of defense infrastructure in terms of NATO standards.

Oleksandr Korniienko emphasised the importance of continuing structural reforms in Ukraine's defense sector, as well as the cooperation between Parliament and the Government in this area, and stressed on the 2026 priorities: air defence, unmanned aerial vehicles, extended-range artillery ammunition.

He also highlighted the importance of bilateral projects between Norwegian companies and Ukrainian partners in all these areas, as well as the significance of the PURL initiative.

"We value our partnership with international colleagues and will continue to work to ensure that Ukraine remains a reliable and predictable partner in the field of security," he added.
