The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, who is visiting Ukraine.
During the conversation, the parties emphasised that a just and lasting peace is only possible if international law is respected, the aggressor state is held accountable, and effective security guarantees are in place. The Secretary General's visit on the eve of the anniversary of russia's full-scale invasion was an important signal of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
Special attention was paid to the creation of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine and the launch of an international compensation mechanism. This is an instrument designed to restore justice — so that the damage caused by russian aggression is compensated from the assets of the aggressor state, rather than from the funds of Ukrainian citizens or international partners.
Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is ready to provide all the necessary legislative decisions for the full implementation of these initiatives.
