During his speech, Oleksandr Korniienko expressed his gratitude to the members of the Bundestag parliamentary group for their visit and active cooperation, emphasising that this group is one of the largest and most powerful, and that it is always a great honour for Ukraine to have such reliable partnership support.
The First Deputy Speaker stressed that ongoing cooperation with the German Parliament's parliamentary group over the years has been extremely important for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, and expressed his gratitude to Germany and the entire German people for their financial and military assistance, as well as for their support of Ukrainian refugees, of whom there are over a million in the country and who, unfortunately, unable to return home due to the complex security situation.
«We highly appreciate the consistent and principled position of the German-Ukrainian Parliamentary Friendship Group, its active support for Ukraine's interests in the Bundestag, and its ongoing efforts to inform the German political community and society about the real situation and challenges facing our country,» said Oleksandr Korniienko.
Speaking about the current situation in Ukraine, Oleksandr Korniienko noted that this winter is the harshest in the last 20 years, and russian attacks on energy infrastructure continue and are unprecedented. This is causing problems with electricity, water and heat supply, and building maintenance. «One of the largest attacks on our infrastructure took place recently. Facilities in Kyiv were partially damaged. The situation is now difficult for 300,000 to 400,000 of our citizens,» he stressed, thanking the German government for its initiative – a special winter support package for Ukraine.
«This is a very timely decision. It is a good example and a leadership move on your part,» said the First Deputy Speaker, stressing the importance of Germany's continued support in supplying equipment for the rapid repair of damage.
Oleksandr Korniienko noted the importance of parliamentary cooperation and horizontal contacts between MPs, the exchange of experience between cities and regions, which strengthens partnership and contributes to more effective support for Ukraine.
