The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU, Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze, together with colleagues from the Ukrainian delegation to the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council, took part in a special meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defence. Together with First Deputy Chair of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko, Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze also spoke with representatives of various political forces represented in the European Parliament — social democrats, liberals, conservatives, greens — as well as with representatives of European executive institutions.
During all the meetings, the main topics of discussion were russia's massive attacks and the genocide it is committing against Ukrainians against the backdrop of the so-called negotiations. Humanitarian, energy and urgent military needs were also discussed, as well as further sanctions and coordination of pressure on the aggressor.
«At the same time, many colleagues were interested in the mood of Ukrainians, our attitude towards inhuman trials; they were interested in the situation with anti-corruption investigations, reforms and opportunities for their promotion; they were interested in the vision for the future holding of elections,» said Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze. According to her, most European colleagues clearly understand the need for maximum assistance so that Ukraine can not only survive but also have a successful future in the European Union.
«In this context, I attempted to identify the basis for the Ukrainian leadership's optimism regarding EU membership as early as 2027. Even incomplete membership in the EU (without voting rights and with limited access in all sectors where reforms have not been completed) in such a short period of time seems, to put it mildly, unlikely,» said the chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU. Therefore, in her opinion, it is important not to create exaggerated expectations in society, but to work to ensure that Ukraine successfully navigates the difficult path of European integration.
