On 27 January 2026, Yevheniia Kravchuk, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, was elected Chair of the PACE Subcommittee on Media and Information Society.
«This is a great honour for me and not just a new role, but also a responsibility at a time when information has become a tool of war against Ukraine,» said Yevheniia Kravchuk.
Among the key priorities of her work in PACE are:
– combating disinformation and russian propaganda;
– countering interference in elections and the undermining of democratic processes;
– protecting freedom of speech and the safety of journalists, as journalism is becoming an increasingly dangerous profession, and this is a challenge that we must address systematically.
«I will continue to work on investigating russia’s crimes against journalists and media workers who have suffered as a result of the war — those who have been killed, wounded or illegally imprisoned. A separate focus will be on the systemic challenges of the digital age, in particular the regulation of large online platforms,» the deputy chair of the parliamentary committee emphasised.
According to her, the Council of Europe is preparing to develop the first international convention on countering disinformation, which is truly a historic moment.
«It is symbolic that Moldova, which currently chairs the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, has identified the fight against disinformation as one of the key priorities of its presidency,» Yevheniia Kravchuk stressed.
