Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union, took part in the meeting of chairs of committees on European affairs of EU Member States and on European integration of partner countries and EU candidate countries (COSAC), which is taking place in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. On 1 January this year, Cyprus assumed the six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will last until 1 July 2026.

During the session devoted to the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze addressed the participants of the meeting and reminded them of the challenges facing the European community. «You are taking over the Presidency at a time when Europe is constantly facing very serious challenges: from security threats and energy vulnerabilities to economic transformation, migration pressure and the need to defend our common democratic values. And also at a time when new geopolitical turbulence is coming from partners on whom Europe has long relied,» said Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze.

She noted that a clear understanding and awareness of these challenges will make it possible to identify priorities for urgent common tasks in order to survive and prove once again that Europe is stronger when it is united in its goals and actions.

For Ukraine, according to the Chair of the Committee, Cyprus’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union is of particular significance.

«We are defending not only our homeland, but also our European future as we see it and as we aspire to — one built on freedom, the rule of law, and human dignity. Therefore, we continue to hope for strengthened support and a clear roadmap for Ukraine’s membership in the EU. This is extremely important for us, and we are grateful to Cyprus for making it a priority of its Presidency,» Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze stressed.

She called on her colleagues to use Cyprus’s Presidency of the Council of the EU to strengthen common European security through determined and urgent joint action.

«Let us ensure that we do not break under pressure from various centres of influence and under the pressure of aggression. We must accelerate the process of integration in response to geopolitical challenges. We are stronger when we stand together,» said the Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union.

She also expressed hope that the European project — which has always been a promise of unity rather than division, of hope rather than fear — would also become a reality for Ukrainians.

«We are paying an extraordinarily high price for this choice, and we hope for a firm, clear, and resolute response and support from Europe,» Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze concluded.
