The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, began a working visit to the Italian Republic and held a meeting with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana. The parties discussed key issues of bilateral cooperation, in particular further support for Ukraine from Italy and the European Union.
«Lorenzo Fontana is a great friend of Ukraine. We highly appreciate Italy's consistent military, humanitarian, financial and political support, which we feel every day,» Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasised.
During the meeting, the parties focused on diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war. It was stressed that peace must be fair and lasting, taking into account Ukraine's position. «This war is taking place in Europe, and that is why Europe's voice must be properly represented in shaping the future peace architecture,» Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasised.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada informed his colleague about russia's latest massive strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and stressed the importance of consolidating international support.
The parties paid particular attention to the issue of returning illegally abducted Ukrainian children and the need to increase international pressure and sanctions. They also discussed the influence of russian propaganda in Europe and the importance of systematically countering it.
Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasised that international law must be respected and that no state has the right to redraw borders by force. He thanked Italy for its solidarity and clear position, noting that Ukraine continues to count on active cooperation for a just peace and the strengthening of security in Europe.
