On the sidelines of the 74th COSAC plenary meeting in Copenhagen, the delegation of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU held bilateral meetings with representatives of the parliaments of Cyprus, Portugal and Denmark, as well as with Danish Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre. There were also many informal meetings and discussions with colleagues from other delegations. During all the meetings, Ukrainian parliamentarians informed their partners about the security situation, domestic political processes and key challenges, including the need to increase military, energy and financial support for Ukraine.

«We discussed with all our colleagues the need for additional mobilisation and focus on explaining to their societies the risks, challenges and threats posed by the russian federation. At the same time, we discussed the need to urgently build up their own defence capabilities and continue to assist Ukraine, even when it seems to be contrary to the well-being of their citizens. In fact, the well-being of their citizens depends on whether they can jointly support Ukraine to such an extent that we can withstand this war and prevent the aggressor from redrawing borders and destroying what remains of the international legal order,» said Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze, Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU.

The COSAC plenary meeting took place during the latest round of negotiations between Ukraine and the United States of America. «It is clear that our colleagues' attention was largely focused on the potential for resolving this war, and we had to explain that it is a false expectation to hope that the end of the war is just around the corner. russia's plans and goals have not only remained unchanged but have worsened, including due to the constant so-called hybrid attacks they are carrying out on countries on the European continent,» said Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze. She is convinced that the danger of hybrid attacks is greatly underestimated in Europe today. The very definition of hybrid attacks needs to be reviewed and rethought in order to be able to act and respond adequately to them.

During the meetings, domestic political challenges in Ukraine were also discussed. «Our colleagues were interested in how Ukraine sees the response to society’s demand for anti-corruption investigations. All of our counterparts, who are ready to continue to actively work and assist, want to have convincing arguments for their societies that Ukraine has learned from the corruption scandals and will be able to overcome these challenges as effectively as possible, not only in the judicial and legal spheres, but also in the political sphere,» said the Committee Chair.

There was much talk about continuing and expanding cooperation in the defence sector, the need to further promote Ukraine's European integration track, and the importance of adopting decisions on financial support instruments, in particular a ‘reparation loan’ from frozen russian assets. European parliamentarians assured their Ukrainian colleagues of their continued support. They stressed the importance of a just peace and consistency in fulfilling commitments to Ukraine. «Many politicians from different European Union countries and different delegations we met are separately concerned about the issue of Ukrainian children illegally deported to russia. They sincerely want to help bring them home,» said Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze.

The delegation of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU invited European MPs who have not yet been to Ukraine to visit in person. «We have invited them to visit Ukraine at the invitation of our committee and are convinced that each such visit provides additional personal arguments for each politician to communicate with their societies and continue and strengthen their support for Ukraine,» said the chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU.
