Mykola Kostomarov returns to Chernihiv Region

 

Within the scope of a working visit to Chernihiv region, Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, visited the village of Didivtsi of Pryluky district, where the public action aimed at the restoration of Mykola Kostomarov Memorial Estate had been launched.  

 

As it was reported, "Spravedlyva Kraina" Fund jointly with Valeriy Dubil, Ivan Kurovsky and Oleh Liashko, People´s Deputies of Ukraine, initiated a public action "Mykola Kostomarov returns to Chernihiv Region". Anatoliy Haidamaka, People´s Artist of Ukraine, and Borys Diedov, Honoured Art Worker of Ukraine, shall assume a scientific and research, and a historical-architectural part of the project.

 

"The project presented envisages restoration of the memorial estate of Mykola Kostomarov that includes his house, the well, the chapel and the park. M.Tomenko also stated that the memorial estate of the prominent Ukrainian figure would be renovated within the scope of the public action, the budget funds not attracted.

 

The Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dwelled upon the idea of founding the museum. He stated that the village of Didivtsi had been an especially dear place for M.Kostomarov, although he had lectured and worked in various places of Ukraine. "It is here that he spent the best years of his life. It is in this place that he got married with his beloved Alina Krahelska after the long years of separation. Moreover, it is here, in Didivtsi, that his talent of a writer, playwright and publicist has fully revealed", - M.Tomenko stated.

 

However, the Vice-Chairman also stated: "It is a paradox that the life and activity of this prominent historian, literary critic and public figure have not been represented in any museum". It is shameful and inadmissible that the house of Ukrainian historian Mykola Kostomarov is in decay.  

 

"I am convinced that Mykola Kostomarov will return to Ukraine, as the spirit and philosophy of Ukrainianhood brilliantly stated by the writer had", - M.Tomenko stressed.
