Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of the Army Daniel P. Driscoll. The arrival of an official of such high rank — for the first time in more than a quarter of a century — sent a strong signal of U.S. support for Ukraine amid russia’s brutal and unrestrained war.
During the talks, the parties discussed the U.S. peace initiative. Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that since the first days of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has sought a just peace with credible security guarantees — guarantees that would protect its citizens, restore territorial integrity, and deter further aggression.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada also informed the American side about russia’s massive attack which took place on 19 November, including the strike on Ternopil, which claimed 31 lives. He underscored that russia’s campaign of terror demonstrates daily that the aggressor responds only to strength.
The discussion also covered the return of Ukrainian children unlawfully taken to russia and the need to intensify sanctions pressure on the aggressor state.
Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for his intention to pursue peace through strength — an approach that offers a real chance for a just and lasting settlement. Ukraine values the support of the United States and looks forward to further steps that will bolster its defence capabilities and enhance protection against russian aggression.
