Ukraine continues to work actively to obtain additional weapons from its partners and to find funds to increase arms production at domestic defence industry enterprises. First and foremost, this involves increasing the production of UAVs, ground drones, artillery shells and artillery weapons.
This was announced by Yegor Cherniev, Member of Parliament, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence, and Head of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
«We have already held meetings in Berlin on providing additional funding to Ukraine for domestic weapons production and financing weapons that we receive from the United States under the PURL programme. This Friday, there will be a meeting of the Bundestag's budget committee, and there is a very good chance that we will receive an additional €3 billion on top of the €8.5 billion that was planned for 2026,» the politician said.
According to him, the Ukrainian delegation is currently heading to the Netherlands, where a new government is being formed after the elections.
«There, we will also discuss increasing aid to Ukraine for its own production, because we have the capacity, for example, to produce millions of drones of various types, but we do not have sufficient funding for this. So now we need to find money that can cover the costs of producing weapons within the country. Of course, this includes not only UAVs, but also ground drones, artillery shells, and artillery weapons,» the MP emphasised.
He recalled that the draft budget for 2026 allocates a record 955 billion hryvnias for the purchase and production of weapons, which is about a third of all funds planned for defence.
«We must have everything we need on the battlefield to deter the russian federation. The aggressor does not want real peace, so it offers negotiations only on the terms of our surrender, and for us this is impossible,» the parliamentarian stressed.
