The Verkhovna Rada appealed to the parliaments and governments of EU and NATO member states, the European Parliament, various international organisations, and the global community to increase pressure on russia due to its systematic crimes against journalists.
As noted by Yevheniia Kravchuk, Member of Parliament, Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, and member of the Permanent Delegation to the PACE, russian war criminals have killed three civilian journalists working in frontline areas in recent times alone.
A French photojournalist and two Ukrainian correspondents for Freedom TV were killed. These individuals were wearing PRESS signs, but it was clear that the occupiers' drones were specifically targeting media representatives. In addition, 26 Ukrainian media professionals are currently being held captive by russia as civilians precisely because of their professional activities. Just a week ago, Yana Suvorova, who was 19 when she administered the Telegram channel «Melitopol is Ukraine,» was sentenced. The russians are throwing people in prison for exposing war crimes and violations by the russian federation,» the politician emphasised.
According to her, the Verkhovna Rada, with its resolution, drew the attention of the international community to these crimes of the russian federation.
«russia seeks to suppress freedom of speech and does not want the world to know about the crimes it commits, so journalists are targeted and suffer because of their professional activities,» the MP stressed.
