A meeting of European Union culture ministers has begun in Copenhagen. One of the important decisions of this meeting concerns financial support for the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund. In particular, the Danish government has announced the allocation of 10 million Danish kroner to support the restoration of Ukrainian cultural sites destroyed by russian attacks.
According to Yevheniia Kravchuk, Member of Parliament, Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, and member of the Permanent Delegation to the PACE, the fund will be registered in Belgium and will operate under European law.
«The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund will be jointly managed by the ALIPH fund and representatives of the Ukrainian state. It will operate under European law, which will make it easier for European donors to transfer funds there. This money can be spent on the conservation and restoration of Ukrainian cultural heritage, the training of restorers, and the support of Ukrainian cultural and creative industries,» the politician noted.
She added that additional support for our cultural heritage is particularly important in the current difficult circumstances.
«This is very important given the limited funding (for the cultural sphere, ed.) in the Ukrainian budget, because our cultural heritage is now part of our national strategic interests, as we have enshrined in legislation, and it is also part of national security,» the MP stressed.
