Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, appreciates the fact that newly-appointed leaders of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine restored activity of the Public Council, which has been suspended for the recent couple of years.
At the today´s sitting of the Public Council under the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, M.Tomenko dwelled upon the priorities in the information sector. He stated that the resolutions could be efficient, provided they were discussed by the experts and State media institutes. "The Parliament shall adopt the media legislation not by the party principle, but in order to ensure efficient competitive Ukrainian media market", - he stated.
The Vice-Chairman stressed that "joint work and coordination of all institutions ensure that such legislation will benefit the entire media community, not merely one political group or party".
M.Tomenko is also surprised that the President has been criticizing the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting, although the absolute majority of its members were elected on the grounds of his appeals, or those of the friendly political forces.
M.Tomenko believes that such a critical approach may imply that another illegal dismissal of the members of the National Council by the President is being planned in the context of the presidential election campaign.
