On Friday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met John Tefft, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine

 

The Parties discussed enhancement of bilateral relations, especially their inter-parliamentary aspect.

 

V.Lytvyn expects that after the presidential elections, Ukraine and the USA will give incentives to the cooperation between the legislative bodies, "extending the range of contacts".

 

In his turn, J. Tefft admitted the necessity of extending inter-parliamentary contacts. He stated that parliament members of his country displayed "intense interest in Ukraine". The Ambassador declared that he would facilitate further development of bilateral relations in this aspect.  

 

The Parties also discussed present-day political and economic situation in Ukraine and the USA.

 

In the context of the ongoing presidential campaign, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated the importance of Ukrainian citizens making "a conscious choice", as the people demand "predictability, sustainability and consolidation for the sake of achievement of important objectives".

 

"The elections shall be fair, yielding legitimate results", - he stated. According to V.Lytvyn, it is a precondition of "a clear-cut, reasonable, predictable, pragmatic and efficient foreign policy on the parity basis". 

 

As far as the priority objectives were concerned, the Head of the Parliament singled out "restoration of legal framework in the country", elimination of corruption, "full-fledged de-partization and depoliticization of the judicial system" and "establishment of efficient public administration system" to settle economic issues. "Neglect of laws is a crucial issue in Ukraine, we shall put end to it", - he stated. 

 

"Ukraine shall be a consolidated and stable State. It is necessary to enter a new stage of development, fill the form of State with new contents", - V.Lytvyn summarized.
