On Defenders of Ukraine Day, a ceremony was held in parliament to honour the memory of all those who died defending Ukraine from russian aggression. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, First Deputy Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko, members of parliament, and the leadership and staff of the Verkhovna Rada Secretariat. They also remembered their colleagues — members of parliament and parliamentary staff who gave their lives for the state.

Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasised the special significance of this day, as it combines several important dates — Ukrainian Cossack Day, the Feast of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, and Veterans' Day. At the same time, it is a day when Ukrainian soldiers are honoured and those who died defending their homeland are remembered.

«This day is of particular significance for the history of our state. Today, as throughout all the years of russian aggression, we are united in one prayer and one aspiration — to achieve a just peace,» said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

He stressed that this day is not only about historical memory, but also about the choice of Ukrainians: independence, freedom, identity and resistance to the aggressor.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also called for unity, as Ukrainian soldiers are holding back enemy attacks every day and defending the country from russian terror. He paid tribute to all the fallen heroes, stressing that their sacrifice obliges us not to give up and to do everything to ensure that Ukraine is free and independent.

First Deputy Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko emphasised: «They gave their lives for the state and the entire Ukrainian people. Eternal memory and honour! Those who defended Ukraine so that Ukrainians could have a future in a free and independent state. Their deeds oblige all of us to protect and build the country for which they fought.»

Eternal memory to all who gave their lives for Ukraine. Glory to the defenders of Ukraine! Glory to Ukraine!
