These days the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko took part in the All-Ukrainian gathering and launch of Ukrainian local government leaders, ‘We. Together. The Future,’ organised by the Ukrainian State Centre for Extracurricular Education at the Artek-Pushcha International Children's Centre.

During a meeting with about 200 young leaders of Ukraine, Oleksandr Korniienko shared his path into politics and the main lessons he had learned from civic activity. He recalled that his political and civic journey began with school and student self-government — a space for developing leadership skills, teamwork, and communication. The experience of the Orange Revolution became a “vaccination” against electoral fraud and proved that active civic engagement can change a country. This realization later led the First Deputy Speaker to parliamentary work. Among the reforms he has been involved in are the opening of the land market, advancing European integration, and ensuring the continuous operation of the Verkhovna Rada during the war.

Oleksandr Korniienko also talked about the features and challenges of public life, having mentioned that the MP is always in the state of balance between support and criticism from society. That is why it is important to have inner stability and support from close ones to maintain balance and work effectively even under public scrutiny.

«It turned into a live podcast format where we spoke sincerely and openly. I shared my path in school and student self-government. We also talked about formal and non-formal education, the value of knowledge in the modern world, how to make decisions in difficult situations and what to rely on, as well as the importance of self-realisation», he said.

Commenting on the current challenges for young people, the First Deputy Speaker emphasised the importance of non-formal education and practical experience, which, according to him, now are no less important than traditional  university education, and open up broader opportunities for self-realization in Europe.

«A generation that wants to help shape the future of their country! I am convinced that they will succeed,» stressed the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
