The Ukrainian Alliance for Medical Exchange and Development (UA-MED) includes, in particular, medical professionals from Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and other leading American educational and medical institutions and non-governmental organisations. The signing of the memorandum will strengthen assistance to Ukraine, primarily in the area of improving the qualifications of Ukrainian doctors. This was announced by Committee Chairman Mykhailo Radutskyi.

The signatories are myself, as Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Health, Minister of Health Viktor Liashko, and Douglas Davis, the initiator of the alliance.

Over several years, radiologist Douglas Davis participated in international conferences and formed a network of contacts among doctors from Ukraine, the United States, and other countries. He subsequently initiated the creation of an alliance that brought together medical professionals and representatives of non-governmental organisations that already support Ukraine. UA-MED includes specialists from Harvard Medical School, Stanford, Johns Hopkins University, Yale Medical School, the University of Wisconsin, as well as representatives of MedGlobal, August Mission, Nova Ukraine and other organisations.

The main goals of the alliance are to strengthen support for Ukraine by training medical professionals, preventing the spread of antibiotic resistance among military and civilians, and participating in the post-war restoration of the medical system.

I am convinced that Ukrainian medicine needs expert support from leading global healthcare institutions and better coordination of international assistance. I see the fight against antibiotic resistance as one of the promising areas of cooperation. Uncontrolled self-medication with antibiotics leads to bacterial resistance, which complicates the treatment of severe infections. Our colleagues at UA-MED are conducting research based on Afghanistan's experience in preventing resistance among military personnel, and this data could be extremely useful for Ukraine.

The memorandum was signed online in a trilateral format. Douglas Davis plans to attend a conference in Kyiv in a few weeks. Then we will be able to exchange signed copies of the documents and begin practical cooperation," added Mykhailo Radutskyi.
