The Ukrainian Parliament's Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy announced that the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which begins on 1 October, will feature the first ever ‘Victory for Victoria’ Day. This initiative is intended to honour the memory of Ukrainian journalist Viktoria Roshchina, who was tortured in a russian prison. From now on, the ceremony will become an annual tradition.
Deputy Chair of the Committee and member of the Permanent Delegation to the PACE Yevheniia Kravchuk, who initiated the PACE resolution on Ukrainian journalists in captivity, thanked her foreign colleagues and PACE President Theodoros Rusopulos for supporting this decision.
‘The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is a high-level international platform, and every decision taken there has political weight. Victory for Victoria Day will be another signal that repression against freedom of speech and crimes against journalists are unacceptable,’ Yevheniia Kravchuk emphasised.
