Former President of the European Parliament Pat Cox expressed his condolences on the brutal murder of Andrii Parubiy, a member of parliament for several terms and Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of the VIII convocation

I wish to express my sincere sympathy and condolences to the family and colleagues of Andriy Parubiy. I am extremely upset to learn of his assassination in Lviv, a city he lived in and represented with such pride. We have known each other and worked closely on parliamentary reform and modernisation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine during and since his period as Speaker of the Rada starting in 2016. His dedication and commitment to Ukraine and her people was exemplary. We will sadly miss his wise counsel and active participation in our on-going European Parliament Jean Monnet Dialogue process.
