Oleksandr Lavrynovych, First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is convinced that the effective Law on the presidential elections is absolutely applicable to the holding of the election campaign. He made the above-mentioned statement at the press conference after the conciliative council on 30 November.
The First Vice-Chairman believes that the amendments to the effective Law suggested by the majority representatives "aim at the attainment of two objectives: to make the campaign chaotic, casting doubt on the election results".
Oleksandr Lavrynovych stated: "The amendments to the election legislation have been totally approved by three Factions: the Party of Regions, the BYuT and Our Ukraine-People´s Self-Defence. Apparently, all the efforts were exerted to ensure a fair competition".
Oleksandr Lavrynovych also stressed: "The alleged necessity of introducing amendments after the resolution of the Constitutional Court is groundless, as those five items recognized as non-compliant with the Constitution lost their validity, the resolution of the Constitutional Court being promulgated. The said provisions did not alter the progress of the election campaign".
