Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Tuesday met on Tuesday Kristian Vigenin, European Parliament Chairman of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in the Framework of the Working Visit to European Institutions

 

St the beginning of the meeting the Parties mentioned that today the Lisbon Treaty came into force. V. Lytvyn also added that today Ukraine celebrates one more remarkable date, 18th Anniversary of the Whole Ukrainian referendum, when the citizens supported the Act on Anniversary of Ukraine, "expressing the desire to live in our own home."

 

"Ukraine has taken its own place as a country but we need the answer on the questions how to fulfill our country", - he declared. According to V. Lytvyn future presidential elections is supposed to become certain "test on democracy" for Ukraine.

 

"We consider special attention to the presidential campaign in Ukraine on the part of European society as a politeness sign for Ukraine", - the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared.

 

"Ukraine expects that after the Lisbon Treaty came into force and European Parliament´s role would be strengthened, it would give certain impulse for the interparliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Euronest", - he declared adding that Euronest Parliamentary Assembly would possesses special status in this cooperation.

 

In his turn Kristian Vigenin informed that the constituent session of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly is supposed to be held in March of the next year. According to his words, Ukraine would play special part during it.

 

V. Lytvyn proclaimed that the cooperation in the framework of "Eastern Partnership" program is being regarded by Ukraine as "an added value to the cooperation with EU" and assured that he would make everything possible in order Ukrainian delegation actively work in Assembly.

 

V. Lytvyn emphasized that it is extremely important that the negotiations between Ukraine and European Union concluded in the practical results: signing of the Treaty on Association and Free Trade Zone and also solution of the issues on the visa regime liberalization as, according to him, it concerns the basic human rights. V. Lytvyn reminded that on 1 January 2010 the Treaty on Readmission comes into force according to which Ukraine has taken immense authorities on itself and according to V. Lytvyn European Union is supposed to give Ukraine the symmetric answer regarding visa regime issue.

 

As it was announced previously on 30 November-1 December, Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stays with the working visit in Brussels "Kingdom of Belgium."

 

On Tuesday Volodymyr Lytvyn would also meet the representatives of the European Parliament political groups.
