Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met Patrick Deval, President of the Belgium House of Representatives, within the Scope of the Working Visit to European Institutions

Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met Patrick Deval, President of the Belgium House of Representatives in the Framework of the Working Visit to European Institutions.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, V. Lytvyn greeted his colleague with the Lisbon Treaty coming into force. "The time for the real work comes and we hop that European structures would pay special attention to the development of the cooperation with Ukraine", - he declared.

 

V. Lytvyn has highly appreciated that it was exactly Belgium representative who headed the European Union. "We hope that during the Belgium chairmanship in EU Ukraine would receive considerable attention concerning the support of its European intentions, assertion of its European identity", - he proclaimed.

 

V. Lytvyn emphasized that it is extremely important that the negotiations between Ukraine and European Union concluded in the practical results: signing of the Treaty on Association and Free Trade Zone and also solution of the issues on the visa regime liberalization as, according to him, it concerns the basic human rights.

 

During the meeting the Parties shared thoughts on the overcoming of the finance-economic crisis. V. Lytvyn emphasized that under the crisis conditions, the rate of goods circulation between Ukraine and Belgium ahs considerable reduced, still, he stressed, our countries should search the spheres "to unite our efforts that would let receiving considerable result." The special attention should be paid to such spheres as space branch, elaboration and implementation of alternative power sources etc.

 

V. Lytvyn also briefed his colleague on the political-economic situation in Ukraine, as well as on the presidential campaign. "Complicity of the present situation can be explained by the fact that Ukraine today is in the state of presidential hasting when each of 18 candidates try to make 46 million of Ukrainian citizens to love them", - he declared. Still, V. Lytvyn deems that "it is the period when we have the opportunity to use the social dialogue and combined interests of divergent social and political groups."

 

V. Lytvyn in this context has pointed out the attention on the necessity of the combining of democratic liberties with the economic reforms that would facilitate "welfare of each region and person."

 

Regarding the issue on power safety, Volodymyr Lytvyn briefed that "we are constantly working in order we avoid the conflicts that would be a problem for the whole Europe." "For the present times, these issues are under the control", - he announced.

 

During the meeting, the Parties discussed the essential issues concerning cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union, focusing attention on the interparliamentary component of the bilateral relations.

 

V. Lytvyn reminded on the invitation for Patrick Deval to visit Ukraine and expressed hope that Parliamentary groups in our states would make everything possible to facilitate this working visit.

 

The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament expressed hope that recently Prince Philippe would visit Ukraine which according to him would facilitate the future bilateral economic cooperation.

 

As it was announced previously on 30 November-1 December, Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stays with the working visit in Brussels "Kingdom of Belgium."

 

Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Tuesday would be Kristian Vigenin, European Parliament Chairman of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly. He would also meet the representatives of the European Parliament political groups.
