Mykola Tomenko reminds the Authorities of the Capital that Family Relations shall be separated from Official Activity since 1 January

Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, reminds the officials of the capital that the Law "On preventing and fighting Corruption" comes into force on 1 January 2010. The Law restricts employment of relatives at the public authority bodies.

Mykola Tomenko stated that several relatives of Kyiv mayor were the deputies of his Faction at Kyiv Municipal Council. Moreover, mass media actively discussed different achievements of the mayor and his family. Thus, an article about the numerous relatives of Leonid Chernovetsky occupying high-ranking offices in the capital was published in "Sehodnia" newspaper of 24.11.2009 under the headline "Family Affairs of the Capital Mayor".

The Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that possibilities of capital mayor for communicating with his relatives in the working time would be restricted since 1 January 2010. Pursuant to the aforementioned Law, if close relatives work in direct subordination, they shall amend the situation within 15 days. Otherwise, the persons shall be appointed to another office or dismissed within a month.

The Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine believes that legislative restriction of possibilities of family cooperation at the public authority and local self-government bodies shall improve the conditions in Kyiv authorities, where the level of family relations has passed the reasonable limits.

The Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that Kyiv Mayor shall clearly separate his personal life and family relations from his official duties.
