Today we celebrate the Day of Unity of Ukraine – a day that has become a symbol of our unity, freedom and invincibility. The decision to unite the then UPR and WUNR into a single, sovereign People’s Republic is perhaps the most important in the Ukrainian liberation struggle of those times. After all, more than a century ago, an age-old dream and a great event in the history of our Ukrainian land and our people came true: to be together in a single state. Now we have a unique historical opportunity to complete what we have started.
One hundred years ago, this day became the crown of the liberation struggle, a confirmation that the idea of unification has always lived in the hearts of Ukrainians. But subsequent events also warn us that unity is not only an achievement captured in a date, but also a great daily responsibility. When Ukraine lost its unity, its enemies immediately took advantage of its weakness.
However, there is another lesson of history: if we fight together, empires fall, but Ukraine remains.
Today, just like a hundred years ago, we are fighting against the artificial russian entity that is forcibly expanding its borders.
Each of us is part of this struggle and a strong network of unity that stretches from west to east, north to south and far beyond the borders of our country. Every day, our Security and Defence Forces feel this comprehensive support: from the state in providing the army with weapons, equipment, drones, logistics and international partners; from volunteers in the cars, power banks, woven nets and other requests; from society in daily donations, children's drawings and every act of support and word of gratitude.
Dear compatriots!
I believe that the day will come when we will once again form a living chain of unity across the country. Not only from Lviv to Kyiv, as it was 35 years ago, but also further to all Ukrainian cities. We will stand in this chain, holding each other's hands in a united, united Ukraine.
And we will bow our heads to remember once again every brother and sister, the best sons and daughters of our country who gave their lives for the age-old dream of a united and independent Ukraine.
Dear Ukrainians!
Unity is not just a date on the calendar. It is not just an outline that we can immediately see on any map of the world. It is our common aspiration! This is what the past generations have defended and what the present generation is fighting for.
Glory to Ukraine!
