This was stated by the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Korniyenko, during the presentation of the research conducted by the Agency for Legislative Initiatives on the topic "The Status of Local Council Members."
He noted: "It is important to work on the status, rights, and responsibilities of local authorities and how they can exercise their powers."

According to Oleksandr Korniyenko, it is essential to develop mechanisms that enable local representatives to become more capable and grow professionally.
The First Deputy Chairman believes that the results of this research should be discussed in meetings with regional representatives, including communities, to gather their perspectives. This would help create the most effective tools to address current challenges.

“These challenges include russia’s military aggression, premature termination of powers, the ban on certain political parties, the imperative mandate, inadequate representation in local councils, guarantees for activities of local councils, work in electoral districts, accountability, control, responsibility, and parliamentary ethics,” Korniyenko emphasized.

The research on "The Status of Local Council Members" was conducted at the request of the Committee on Organization of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development, and Urban Planning.
