The Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement held a Round Table Discussion on the Topic "Enhancement of Children Rights Protection Legislation as to the Trafficking in Children, Sexual Abuse and Exploitation"

Volodymyr Sivkovych, First Vice-Chairman of the Committee, opened the round table discussion and declared that the Committee was constantly occupied with the issue on children rights protection. It resulted in adoption of certain laws aimed at the improvement of national legislation in this sphere.

 

V. Sivkovych presented certain data on crimes against children, their liberties and rights, still he emphasized that these data are latent.

 

The People´s Deputy informed participants of the round table discussion on the bill elaborated to protect children rights and those being scrutinized by the Committee.

 

Oleksandr Bandurka, Leader of the Scientific-Expert group of the Committee, emphasized that the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement was persistently elaborating the problematic of children rights protection.

 

Reporter has pointed out that there is no such subject as "Human Rights and their Protection" in the courses of juridical institutions. O. Bandurka suggested introducing such a subject for the law officers who protect Ukrainian citizens.

 

Yukie Mokuo, UNICEF Representative in Ukraine, highly appreciated activity of Ukraine in the sphere of the children rights protection. She declared: "Today all the necessary measures shall be taken to protect children rights in Ukraine."

 

The participants of the meeting scrutinized number of bills aimed at the improvement of the legislation in the sphere of children protection and counteraction to the production of children pornography.

 

As a result of the discussion recommendations for the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Ministries on Family, Youth, Sort, Education and Science Matters, Internal Affairs and Justice were adopted.
