On Friday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, attended the Celebration of the 175th Anniversary of Foundation of Kyiv T.H.Shevchenko National University
"I am happy to celebrate the birthday of our native university for
the thirty fifth time", - stated V.Lytvyn in his speech.
The Head of the Parliament stressed that Kyiv National University is "a patriarch of Ukrainian statehood, as the fortitude and intellect of its alumni and lecturers inspired Ukrainians to be the masters in their own house". According to V.Lytvyn, "university community shall exert every effort to strengthen the confidence of Ukrainian society in its possibilities".
"It is good that the anniversary coincided with the political campaign,
- he stated. Since its faculty and employees are properly
esteemed by the State owing to the elections".
In the interview to the journalists, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine explained that "owing to the concurrence of the anniversary and the political campaign, the faculty and the employees of the university received gratuities due to them for the sake of moral recognition".
However, V.Lytvyn stated that on the eve of elections, "the status of the universities has been depreciated: a dozen of them received a status of research universities, while some of them do not have even scientific schools". "Therefore, it is necessary to preserve the spirit and significance of the university corporation, as it is intellect that facilitates further development of Ukraine", - he stressed.
The Head of the Parliament presented
the representatives of the faculty with The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine decorations.
