The Members of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU met with representatives of the Moldovan Parliament who are visiting Ukraine at the invitation of the Committee. The parties discussed the efforts of both countries on the path to European integration, as well as support for Ukraine in the fight against russian aggression. Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze, the Chair of the Committee, stressed that it is important for Western allies to move from the narrative that Ukraine should not lose this war to the realisation that it must win. And then, accordingly, the quantity and quality of assistance and support should be much greater. Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze urged her Moldovan colleagues to work to attract support for Ukraine: ‘If Ukraine loses, it will mean that russia can attack Moldova and other countries. If Ukraine wins and becomes a NATO member, it will bring stable peace to the continent.’

The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU also spoke about the challenges to European integration, including the need to strengthen institutional capacity, including increasing the number of specialists in the Committee's secretariat. According to her, the Committee is currently reviewing draft laws for compliance with EU law not only before the first reading in the Verkhovna Rada, but also those that have already been finalised for the second reading. ‘And we already have several positive examples of how we have managed to improve the draft laws that have already been finalised for the second reading. Thanks to the conclusions prepared by the experts of our Committee's secretariat, we were able to attract the attention of the relevant secretariat and correct inconsistencies with EU law in the draft laws that were already due to go to the second reading in the Parliament,’ said Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze.

The First Deputy Head of the Committee, Vadym Halaichuk, believes that the visit of the Moldovan colleagues will be the beginning of active cooperation, exchange of views and synchronisation of efforts on the path of integration of both countries into the European Union. He also stressed the need to intensify the interparliamentary dialogue between the EU candidate countries. In particular, to update the existing cooperation platforms and to think about creating new ones that would involve all the countries currently moving towards EU membership.

The Committee Secretary Valentyn Nalyvaichenko noted that the members of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU, despite representing different political forces, are united in their joint work on European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Regarding cooperation with Moldova, he reminded that both countries have a positive experience of cooperation in the security sector and this area should be further developed. “As for European integration, let's support each other, not compete, but cooperate in order to achieve our goal of becoming full members of the European Union and, I hope, NATO as soon as possible,’ said Valentyn Nalyvaichenko.
