The Committee on Public Health held an Extended Sitting to discuss the Epidemic Situation in Ukraine caused by the Rapid Spreading of Pandemic Influenza A(H1N1), and Measures taken to localize Flu Epidemics and minimize its Consequences

Tetiana Bakhteeva, the Chairperson of the Committee on Health Protection informed on alarming situation because of the season and pandemic А/Н1N1 influenza cases in Ukraine.

 

Tetiana Bakhteeva stressed the fact that the country had no possibilities to hospitalize all sick people.

 

According to T. Bakhteeva, one of the reasons of outbreak and rapid development of epidemic was complete unreadiness and failure of the executive power to react in time on this situation.

 

Chairperson of the Committee declared that the Committee was aware of possible epidemic complication and informed the Government on it in time.

 

The Chairperson of the Committee declared that first of all citizens must be provided with the qualitative and in time medical treatment.

 

According to Ministry on Health Protection of Ukraine data, the number of sick is more then 255 thousand. Among them sick with influenza 191889, children aged les 6 years 3327 and from 6 to 18 6511, pregnant  - 3; sick with respiratory disease 236327, children aged les 6 years 35560 and from 6 to 18 76009, pregnant  - 953.

 

The biggest number of sick people is observed in Lviv Region.

 

T. Bakhteeva emphasized that the State Influenza Center of Ministry on Health Protection of Ukraine still is not functioning for today, as well as the virology laboratories with the specialists in this sphere.

 

Speakers today stressed the necessity of the implementation of the plan of actions aimed at the conversion of the hospitals for the admission of sick with influenza caused by high pathogenic virus. Also should be allotted extra specialized transport for the transportation of sick people, connection means, register formation for the prevention of virus infection, medical equipment etc.

 

According to the members of the Committee there is a need to shift to the strengthened antiepidemic regime in trade, transport, hotel objects and other places people confluence.
