Mykola Tomenko: Agriculture and Processing Industry shall become the Center of the State Economic Policy
Within the scope of the working visit to Cherkasy region, Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, visited "Selyshchansky Refinery" LLC, and "Korsun-Shevchenkivsky Grain-Collecting Enterprise" OJSC.
M.Tomenko stressed: "Agriculture and processing industry shall become the center of the State economic policy. According to the State statistic data concerning situation in this economic field, it is the said branches that maintain Ukrainian economy under the recessionary conditions".
Thus, the Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deems unreasonable to discuss inefficiency of sugar beet branch and unprofitability of sugar refineries in Ukraine. "Selyshchansky refinery and a number of other sugar mills confirm that such enterprises are profitable and fulfill an important social function in the rural area, provided the owners and investors conduct effective administration", - he stated.
To stabilize sugar industry in 2010-2011, M.Tomenko deems necessary to expand sugar beet cultivation areas. "We have a paradoxical situation: Ukraine that has been a traditional exporter of sugar can be obliged to purchase it", - stressed M.Tomenko.
Summarizing, Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated that he would recommend the Ministry of Agrarian Policy to use experience of successful enterprises to make the branches of agriculture competitive and efficient.
