The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed security agreements with the leadership of Spain and Belgium. Madrid will provide military assistance worth €1.1 billion this year, and an additional €5 billion will be allocated by 2027. The agreement with Belgium also provides for the allocation of significant amounts for military assistance and the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine.
This was stated by Olena Shuliak, the MP, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Organisation of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning.
“The security agreement with Spain includes various areas: military and humanitarian assistance, as well as support for the development of the Ukrainian economy. The document does not ignore issues related to strengthening sanctions against the aggressor state. Of course, the talks concerned Ukraine's continuation of reforms, including those related to our European integration path,” the MP said.
She added that the President Volodymyr Zelenskyi had discussed with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez the need to provide Ukraine with additional air defence systems, as russia continues to wage terror, particularly in the Kharkiv region.
“At the same time, the signed security agreement with Belgium also provides for the allocation of significant amounts of military assistance to Ukraine. Almost €1 billion will be provided in 2024. Most importantly, we have agreed that Belgium will provide us with 30 F-16 aircraft, the first of which will be delivered this year. In addition, Belgium has significant amounts of frozen russian assets, and this year more than €1.7 billion in income from these assets will be used to help Ukraine,” the MP said.
According to her, on the eve of the Global Peace Summit to be held in Switzerland, the signing of security agreements is a very good sign that our partners continue to support Ukraine.
