The parties discussed the current security situation, russian shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, as well as reconstruction and recovery.

First of all, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude for all the practical assistance provided by the city of Ghent to Ukrainians and Ukraine, in particular, in terms of humanitarian aid.

“Recently, russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The most urgent needs of Ukraine are air defense systems to protect Ukrainian cities from russian shelling,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk, adding that a large number of attacks by russia are focused on the energy sector of Ukraine.

That is why the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine appealed to Mathias De Clercq to consider the possibility of transferring the necessary energy equipment to Ukraine as soon as possible, in particular, power generators and transformers.

He also called on Eurocities mayors to provide additional funding for reconstruction and recovery projects in Ukrainian cities that need to be rebuilt quickly, particularly in Kharkiv.

In conclusion, Ruslan Stefanchuk invited the Mayor of Ghent to join the Conference on Ukraine's Recovery to be held in Berlin this June.
