During his working visit to Zhytomyr region, the First Vice Speaker Oleksandr Korniyenko took part in a roundtable discussion "Transparency of Local Self-Government as a Component of the Decentralization Process. The practice of today. Ways of Development".

"Local self-government has always been aware of the fact that it has to live in accordance with European and democratic norms," said Oleksandr Korniyenko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

At the same time, he noted that the European Charter of Local Self-Government emphasizes that there must be accountability and transparency: "Each of us made a choice and is interested in how the funds are used, what happens at the meetings. And this is exactly what the adopted draft law on local government transparency provides for."

The First Vice Speaker noted that this is important in two ways. Firstly, in the context of European integration, because there will be an opportunity to participate in programs and partners must understand how the funds are used. Secondly, it is important for our society, which has questions and wants to see answers, to know where, what, and how.

Finally, Oleksandr Korniyenko expressed his gratitude the professional discussion.

The working visit to Zhytomyr region was also attended by Ukrainian MPs: the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Arseniy Pushkarenko and the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Administrative and Territorial Structure and Local Self-Government of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Organization of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning Vitaliy Bezgin.
