The Committee on State Building and Local Self-Government recommends that the Parliament adopts as a Basis the Bill on Amendments to the Law "On Elections of the President of Ukraine" (re Peculiarities of holding Elections of the President of Ukraine)

The Bill (Reg. No. 5131) introduces amendments to the effective Law, eliminating discrepancies and improving certain regulations.

 

The Committee members deem necessary to exclude certain regulations that lost the topicality due to the start of the election process of the presidential elections scheduled for 17 January 2010.

 

In view of the topicality of the Bill and introduction of amendments to the Law "On Elections of the President of Ukraine" in the plenary week of 3-6 November 2009, the Committee suggests that the Parliament reduces the terms for submitting proposals and motions to the Bill in accordance with Part 2, Clause 116 of the Standing Orders of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.   

 

The Committee members believe that adoption of the Law will protect constitutionally guaranteed citizens´ electoral rights, and provide for proper organization and holding of the presidential elections.
