Volodymyr Lytvyn, Сhairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is convinced that Ukraine needs the Responsible Authorities that would be guided in their Activity by the Highest Democratic Standards

"I am convinced that Ukraine needs reasonable responsible authorities that shall be guided by the highest standards", - stated V.Lytvyn at the Wednesday´s press conference in the city of Dnipropetrovsk.

The Head of the Parliament commented upon the prospects of Ukraine´s development. He stated: "We face the choice either to follow the post-Soviet way, which is the authoritarian government system, or to develop democratically, opting for the European way of development".

V.Lytvyn stressed that the democratic approach presupposed not only political rights and liberties, but also economic ones. "Unfortunately, this field has not been influenced by democracy: the same monopoly and diktat can be observed only with the difference that oligarchs who monopolized Ukrainian economy substituted ministries", - he stated.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that "the State is being destructed, as such constitutional bodies as the Antimonopoly Committee and the State Property Fund are non-working". "Everyone is actively discussing the situation concerning the sale of Odesa Port Plant, but nobody is familiar with the standpoint of the State Property Fund concerning the matter, and nobody will underscore its responsibility for the situation", - he remarked.

V.Lytvyn also criticized the phrase "a strong President". "What does this term presuppose? That the President gathered everyone, shook his fist and made everyone work? One should adhere to the principle "do as I do" instead of "do as I told you", - he stated and added that the President "shall guide the nation by his own example, activity and way of life".

"The authorities shall stop the talks concerning State building. The State will be powerful, provided every individual has a possibility for self-realization", - he stated.
