The presidential campaign in Ukraine shall be concluded by the citizens´ election of the Head of State, not by the appointment of the President by court or through any manipulations. Oleksandr Lavrynovych, First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made the above-mentioned statement in the program at Channel 5, commenting upon the legislative regulations of the Law on Presidential Elections.
According to the politician, drafting the amendments to the Law on Presidential Elections, "the main political opponents came to an agreement that elections shall be held in such a way, that the candidates, not the technologies beyond the electoral inclinations of Ukrainian citizens, compete".
However, the First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine does not reject the possibility of implementation of different scenarios aimed at the disruption of elections.
Commenting upon the work of the Central Election Commission in the period of election campaign, O.Lavrynovych stated that it would not strike. "I am convinced that the Central Election Commission will not strike. If there are any attempts of strike at the level of the CEC, there will certainly be a corresponding legislative resolution", - he stressed.
O.Lavrynovych is convinced that the membership of Anatoliy Pysarenko who reached the retirement age in the Central Election Commission will not be the ground for canceling the results of elections. Although the politician refuted the statement that Pysarenko´s vote would bear an essential influence on the results of the elections, he admitted that it could pose certain problems in the resolution-adoption process.
O.Lavrynovych supposes that any talks concerning distribution of authorities between the leaders of the presidential elections prior to the conclusion of the campaign are untimely.
The First Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expects that a candidate supported by the majority of Ukrainian citizens will become the Head of State. "I believe that in 2010 we will witness how a candidate who considerably prevails over the opponents will become the Head of State and receive greetings not in a month after the court decisions are carried out, but the next morning after the elections, and will immediately start to form the authorities for the sake of the country".
