The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko took part in the Bucha Forum "Reforms. Decentralisation. European Integration".

"Bucha and its hromada (community) are one of the places where Ukrainian local self-government and decentralisation reform have defeated the russian federation," the First Vice Speaker stressed.

At the same time, Oleksandr Korniienko noted that international standards of democracy teach us to think globally and act locally: "It is important to understand what European integration means for local self-government – what will be the benefits and what risks there may be."

"Ukraine Facility is a comprehensive programme that will allow us to raise the economy, invest in priority sectors, including military-tech, green energy and reconstruction. And all this will be done in hromadas (communities) – each of them will be actively developing," he said.

Taking this opportunity, the First Vice-Speaker presented a letter of gratitude on behalf of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to Anatolii Fedoruk, Mayor of Bucha, for his significant personal contribution to the socio-economic development of the region, the development of local self-government, active civic activity and on the occasion of the Local Self-Government Day.

"We have come a long way as a country in the context of our system of interaction between central and local authorities," said Oleksandr Korniienko, adding that one of its results, primarily due to the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people, was Ukraine's candidacy for membership in the European Union.

"Thanks to our synergy, we can move on to greater results and achievements," Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, concluded.

For reference. The event was organised by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on State Building, Local Governance, Regional and Urban Development with the assistance and support of the USAID Project "Improved Local Government Performance and Accountability" (GOVERLA), U-LEAD with Europe Programme, Swiss-Ukrainian Project DECIDE "Decentralisation for Democratic Education" and the Council of Europe Programme "Strengthening Good Democratic Governance and Resilience in Ukraine".
