“The Holodomor of 1932-33 was a deliberate act of genocide committed by the despicable stalinist regime against the Ukrainian people,” said Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk during the scientific and practical conference “90th Anniversary. The History of Genocide”.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine noted that it was a crime that affected millions of Ukrainians just because they were Ukrainians: “And the Holodomor is not just a tragedy for Ukraine. It is also a warning of what will happen if we lose our freedom.”
In addition, he noted that today the governments and parliaments of many countries have recognised the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. In particular, in 2022-2023 alone, 17 national parliaments, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the European Parliament recognised the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
At the same time, Ruslan Stefanchuk said that on Wednesday, 22 November, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted Resolution No.10275 on the Statement of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, in which it noted all the parliaments that have joined the recognition of such a crime as genocide of the Ukrainian people during this period.
“This is our common work, our common vision, our common memory,” stressed the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine, expressing gratitude to the members of all parliaments who “remember that what happened once should not happen again”. “But this is not remembered in the russian federation, because, just like 90 years ago, the current ruscist regime continues to destroy the Ukrainian people just because we are Ukrainians, using the same methods,” he added.
In addition, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that today’s russian aggression is directly related to the events of ninety years ago. The russian aggression is accompanied by grave war crimes and destruction: “And the enemy is again using hunger as a weapon, blocking the export of Ukrainian grain and destroying port infrastructure.”
“Ukraine is a country that has survived the famine. And we have a high responsibility to the whole world, because Ukraine has been and remains the breadbasket of the whole world,” he said.
“I
wish we would not get tired of promoting Ukraine, because our grain will form
the basis of the future and will be appreciated by future generations,” Ruslan
Stefanchuk concluded, noting that the current generation must finally stop the
aggressor and the genocide of the Ukrainian people.
