On Monday, 6 November, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko paid a working visit to Zhytomyr region.

The visit is focused on three areas: education, social and security. “These are important components of development for our country today, especially in the context of European integration,” said the First Vice Speaker, noting that each of them is directly related to Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

He also stressed that this visit is important in the context of developing local security infrastructure – transport, legal, social and educational.

Visit to the Zhytomyr Geriatric Nursing Home of the Zhytomyr Regional Council

The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine awarded the best social workers of the region on the occasion of their professional holiday at the Zhytomyr Geriatric Nursing Home. “Even during these difficult challenges, we are constantly working with partners to be able to further develop this area,” he stressed, adding that there are many plans to reform and bring it closer to European standards: “We are preparing for serious projects and joint tasks.”

“You are proving what is written in the Constitution, that Ukraine is a social state. You prove it with your work and your actions,” said Oleksandr Korniienko during the award ceremony.

Visit to a unit of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine

During his visit to the SES unit, Oleksandr Korniienko had the opportunity to personally thank the employees for all their deeds. “We will do everything to ensure that these feats are enshrined in history and government actions,” he said.

The First Vice Speaker also noted that over the past five to seven years, the service has gone through a process of modernisation and upgrading. “The parliament and all of us, regardless of political colours, will remember and support our rescuers,” Oleksandr Korniienko stressed.

At the same time, he added that the safety of citizens in a broad sense, especially in emergency situations, is an important component of state policy.

Participation in the meeting of the Supervisory Board of Zhytomyr Polytechnic University

During the meeting of the Supervisory Board of Zhytomyr Polytechnic University, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasised a number of important issues, in particular, the integration of veterans and the development of military-tech.

“There are a lot of engineers in the war who will return and will be able to pass on their experience and knowledge to students,” he emphasised.

At the same time, the First Vice Speaker noted that Ukraine has a great potential to develop its own powerful drones, which are recognised worldwide. “Many in the international space are betting that our country will become a flagship in this area. It is important to develop this area and train Ukrainian specialists,” he added.

In addition, Oleksandr Korniienko noted that a large-scale education reform is currently being implemented, which has already begun in five higher education institutions. “The role of supervisory boards will grow – they will determine the strategy and directions of development of higher education institutions,” he stressed, adding that Zhytomyr Polytechnic is already actively moving in this regard.

“The Ukrainian government will take care that our educational institutions have opportunities for development,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, emphasising that Zhytomyr Polytechnic has opened an innovation hub that is actively working on all the developments that Ukraine needs both on the battlefield and in civilian life: “Engineers are the foundation and the base on which our recovery and economic growth will be built.”

“Each area requires additional attention from the state,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, adding that, following the working visit to Zhytomyr region, a further action plan has already been planned, including the possibility of holding offsite meetings of committees in Zhytomyr region.

The delegation also included Arsenii Pushkarenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, and Hanna Lichman, the member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Regulatory Policy.
